General Information


At GSAS, we use mainly 8-week term calendar to allow more focused learning of a subject. One calendar year is usually divided into five terms: term 1 is Feb-Mar; term 2 is Apr-May; term 3 is Jun-Jul-Aug; term 4 is Sep-Oct; term 5 is Nov-Dec-Jan. Note that some classes may not fit into one term, and may start/end at different dates. Students should always check the Course Catalog for updated offerings details. Part-time students may start at any term, but full-time students coming to Hong Kong can start only at term 4 in September (the traditional Fall term). The updated GSAS calendar can be found at .

The application for part-time study typically closes at one and half month before a term starts. Priority application and financial aid application often close earlier. The latest application deadlines and important dates can be found here. Full-time applicants for term 4 (Fall term) are encouraged to apply early. Priority application and financial aid application close in March.

Academic Programs


GSAS offers a FinAI Postgraduate Diploma program, and plans to offer Master's and Doctoral degree programs in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Healthcare, and Business. Detailed program information can be found at the school website.

Taught programs usually consist of only coursework, and research programs normally require the submission of a thesis in addition. GSAS programs are more interconnected with the industries, and are normally composed of coursework and internship. GSAS programs are designed to assist students acquire advanced skills, and to find a better job, as compared with more course-driven “taught” programs and theory-driven “research” programs.

Most GSAS course contents are offered through our state-of-the-art Learning Management System, and can be studied completely face-to-face, online, or in hybrid mode with some face-to-face instructions. Please refer to the Course Catalog for the offering mode available for an individual course. No matter the mode of study, student learning outcomes are always the priority at GSAS. On your GSAS transcript or diploma, there is no marking of offering mode of a course taken or a degree obtained.

For Postgraduate Diploma program, the normative study period is 10 months for a full-time student, and 18 months for a part-time student. For Master's degree program, then normative study period is 16 months for a full-time student, and 24 months for a part-time student; the maximum study period is 36 months. For Doctoral degree program, the normative study period is 36 months, and the maximum study period is 60 months. Each program may have different study time, and details can be found in individual program requirements.

Application for Admission


The application procedure and admission requirements are the same.The application procedure.

The minimum requirements are a bachelor degree from a recognized institution, and a demonstration of English proficiency (TOEFL iBT 79; IELTS 6.5; CET-6 490). An individual program may set higher admission requirements which can be found on the school website. Our selection criteria will include assessment of applicant's academic and professional performance, and development potential at GSAS. Note that GSAS will reserve a certain percentage of seats for students from less-privileged background, but with a strong determination for self-improvement through education.

Meeting the minimum requirements will allow us consider and evaluate your application, including your academic and professional qualifications, work experience and performance in interview or tests, etc. The admission decision will be based on a holistically review of the relevant factors.

In general, applicants are required to submit the following documents through the online application system: a copy of identity document, a portrait profile photo, a self-introduction video, a personal statement, official transcripts, degree certificates, proof of English proficiency, recommendations, and other materials required by specific programs. Successful applicants will be required to mail the original hardcopy of the documents in sealed envelop to the School, or ask the issuing university to send electronic official transcripts directly to the School.

The non-refundable application fee for each program is HK$200. The application fee may be paid online by FPS/Alipay/WechatPay or wire transfer when you submit your application. You may get an application fee waiver by following our public accounts on wechat/weibo/facebook/linkedin and posting your application video (or part of it).

You may log in to the school online application system to check your application status. You may follow the school wechat account and check your application status there. You can reach the Admission Office through email apply@gsas.edu.hk or through your Program Advisor.

We will typically arrange an admission interview or test for promising candidates, usually through video conference on ZOOM. Applicants are advised to download the apps to prepare for the interview or test.

You may substitute up to 20% courses with ones assigned by GSAS if you have taken similar courses already. You should apply directly with the program chair once admitted.

Offer Acceptance and Registration


Full-time programs starting in term 4 (Fall term) normally make admission offers from March to July. Part-time programs make admission offers on a rolling basis, normally at one month before a term starts. Applicants can check their application status via the school online application system, and download the Admission Notification.

You will need to fulfill all the conditions by the deadline stipulated on the Admission Notification before you are allowed to commence your study. However, you can still proceed to register provisionally.

You may file for deferred admission in the school online application system, and pay a seat-holding fee of HK$4000 per year. The admission can be deferred for up to a maximum of three years from the original date of admission. Failure to file will void applicant's admission status.

The due date for the payment of non-refundable acceptance deposit is specified on your Admission Notification. You may find relevant information on the school online application system. Failure to pay the acceptance deposit by the due date will void applicant's admission status.

For Postgraduate Diploma and Master's degree programs, you need to make the whole program fees and tuition payment before you can start register for any classes. For Doctoral degree programs, the program fees and tuition can typically be paid in two installments. The details of payment method and instruction can be found on school's online registration system.

Student Visa/Entry Permit


Non-local students are generally required to obtain a valid visa/entry permit to study at GSAS. Students who study primarily online normally do NOT need to obtain a visa/entry permit. You can contact the Hong Kong Immigration Department for visa related issues.

If you are admitted to one of our graduate programs, we will assist you to apply for a student visa/entry permit from the Hong Kong Immigration Department. A visa handling fee of HK$560 is required.

The Hong Kong Immigration Department normally takes 6-8 weeks to process student visa application upon receipt of all required documents.

Upon your arrival in Hong Kong, you should present your visa/entry permit at the Immigration Counter. You will be issued a landing slip which bears all relevant information. Please present this landing slip, your visa label and travel document when commencing your study at GSAS.
